My Eyes are Dry — Keith Green

My eyes are dry

My faith is old

My heart is hard

My prayers are cold

And I know how I ought to be

Alive to You and dead to Me

Oh, what can be done

For an old heart like mine

To soften it up

With oil and wine

The oil is you

Your spirit of love

Please wash me anew

In the wine of Your blood

These words from Keith Green [Keith Green: The Greatest Hits, 2008] resound with me.  There are times when it seems that my life of faith, my walk with Christ, is suffering from malnutrition—not because God has withheld himself, but more because I’ve become distracted or unfocused.  We must, from time to time be washed anew, softened up.
